ABOUT NEXT STEP CAREERS
Your teenager may be about to kick off their career journey as a young adult.
Most teens don't have a clear sense of career direction, don't know what options are available, and can feel lost and confused.
I can help.
I'm Steve Oehley, a career advisor dedicated to guiding young adults through the complexities of choosing a career path.
As a parent myself, I believe in helping teenagers find a career aligned with who they are.
The most common concerns I hear from parents:
-
"I don't know what my teen's strengths are."
-
"My teen has no idea about what career options are out there for them."
-
"We don't even know where to start!"
hey ned
My practice is evidence-based and focuses on discovering the uniques strengths and interests of your young adult.
With over a decade of varied professional experience, as well as running my own business, I bring a wealth of real-world experience to my career guidance and coaching.
I began coaching in 2022, underwent Coach Masters Academy training and post-graduate training in Career Counselling. I am an International Coaching Federation (ICF) member and ICF-Certified Coach (ACC). I also host a career podcast.
I understand the high cost of pursuing a career not aligned to their strengths, a lesson I learned after investing 5 years and $100k in a veterinary degree, only to end up dissatisfied in clinical practice. This experience, coupled with ineffective guidance from my own school counsellor, fuels my commitment to providing evidence-based, practical career advice.
At Next Step Careers, young adults receive personalised guidance to identify career paths that align with their strengths, background, and interests.
My approach is comprehensive, ensuring teens and their parents are well-prepared to make informed decisions, while still using their intuition or “gut” feelings.
Steve lives in the Wairarapa with his (better) half Becca, and their daughter, Nala. He operates in person, virtually, and via workshops throughout New Zealand.
