About Us

Meet Steve.
I’m Steve Oehley, a career advisor dedicated to helping young adults and professionals find fulfilling career paths.

With over a decade of varied professional experience—including running my own business—I bring real-world insights to my career guidance and coaching.
I began coaching in 2022, underwent Coach Masters Academy training and post-graduate training in Career Counselling, and became an ICF-Certified Coach (ACC). I also host a career podcast.

I understand the high cost of pursuing a career not aligned with your strengths—a lesson I learned after investing 5 years and $100k in a veterinary degree, only to end up dissatisfied in clinical practice. This experience, coupled with ineffective guidance from my own school counselor, fuels my commitment to providing evidence-based, practical career advice.

At Next Step Careers, I provide personalized career coaching tailored to each individual’s strengths, background, and aspirations.

I live in the Wairarapa with my (better) half, Becca, and our daughter, Nala. I operate in person in Wellington and Auckland, and virtually throughout New Zealand.
Career Clarity For Teens
Your son or daughter may be about to kick off their career journey as a young adult.

Most teens don't have a clear sense of career direction, don’t know what options are available, and can feel lost and confused.

The Most Common Concerns I Hear from Parents:
-
"I don't know what my teen's strengths are."
-
"My teen has no idea about what career options are out there for them."
-
"We don't even know where to start!"

As a parent myself, I believe in helping teenagers find a career aligned with who they are. My practice is evidence-based and focuses on discovering their unique strengths and interests.

At Next Step Careers, young adults receive personalized guidance to identify career paths that align with their strengths, background, and aspirations. My approach is comprehensive, ensuring teens and their parents are well-prepared to make informed decisions while still using their intuition or “gut” feelings.

Career Coaching for Professionals
Feeling stuck in your career? You’re not alone.

Many working professionals find themselves questioning if they’re on the right path. Maybe your job feels uninspiring, or you’re not sure what’s next. You might look around and see others excelling while you’re battling self-doubt, burnout, or a sense that you’re capable of more.

Trying to figure it out while still holding a job and managing a busy life can feel overwhelming, where do you even start?

That’s Where Career Coaching Comes In. Imagine having clarity about what you really want, a career that aligns with your passions, values, and long-term goals. Picture yourself feeling confident, fulfilled, and excited about the future.

At Next Step Careers, I help professionals gain career clarity, transition into new roles, and navigate career changes with a structured, evidence-based approach.
If you're ready to find the right career path and take control of your future, let’s talk.
